Located on Bintan Island, the 'Doulos Phos The Ship Hotel' is a unique facility that has garnered much attention. It is a former world's oldest passenger ship, the 'Doulos', which has been transformed into a hotel and has been certified by the Guinness World Records.
The history of the 'Doulos' ship began in 1914, just two years after the completion of the Titanic, which became the setting for the Academy Award-winning film 'Titanic'. It was born as a cargo ship and later underwent several expansions to become a passenger ship and retired.
In order to pass on its great achievements to future generations, the ship was moved to land on Bintan Island after its retirement and soft-opened as a passenger ship hotel. Some of the equipment from the time of its maiden voyage remains in the hotel, making it an accommodation with high historical value.
Inside the hotel, former ship cabins have been transformed into luxurious suites and guest rooms. The rooms are furnished with elegant furniture and amenities, allowing guests to enjoy a unique interior that makes them feel like they are on a sea voyage and experience the history of the ship. As the hotel is built on land, there is no need to worry about seasickness.
In keeping with the concept of preserving the legacy of the passenger ship, rooms are referred to as cabins and floors as decks, giving guests the impression that they are staying on a cruise ship.
The hotel's top-floor suite, the 'Master Mariner Suite', is a luxurious space reminiscent of the former captain's room, complete with a jacuzzi bath.
Outside the door, the suite is connected to a deck with a private feel, complete with a dining table and summer bed.
The former engine room has been preserved as a valuable museum with limited access, and for hotel guests, a Heritage Ship Tour (a free 30-minute ship interior tour) is held twice a day, morning and evening. You will surely be amazed by the sophistication of the technology that supported the heart of the ship for over 100 years.
The hotel's restaurant is very popular for its traditional Indonesian dish 'Rijsttafel'. It starts with the introduction of the restaurant staff dressed as a captain, followed by a course meal where you can enjoy 10 dishes carefully selected from local dishes from various parts of Indonesia, including appetizers, main dishes, and desserts.
Breakfast is served in the Piano Lounge, where the method of serving varies depending on the day, such as buffet style. In the restaurant, nostalgic movie music piano performances (CDs) are played, and the gentle breeze with the beach in front of your eyes makes you feel comfortable and allows you to enjoy a relaxing time away from the hustle and bustle of the city.
The Guinness-Certified passenger ship hotel 'Doulos Phos The Ship Hotel' offers a unique accommodation experience reminiscent of a cruise ship, in a space surrounded by the proud historical heritage of a passenger ship. It is truly a rare legacy facility."
